FAQ

What are the season dates?

Spring Registration opens the previous year in October/November and it closes around the middle of January.

Evaluations will take place in Late January or Early February.

Players will be assigned to teams based on the draft rules by mid February. Coaches will contact players shortly after the draft and schedule a team meeting and practice times and locations.

The kickoff Jamboree is in March.

Regular season games are weekdays and Saturdays; regular season games start the beginning of April.

The regular season should end around Memorial Day with playoffs (no playoffs in the Shetland Division) ending near the end of the school year. Rain or other factors may force the extension of the season.

Where & When are practices and games?

Brentwood Pony is just our name -- We play in Brentwood, Discovery Bay, Knightsen & in Byron.

Practice locations and times are determined by the individual Managers of the teams. It's possible that a Brentwood players team may practice in Discovery Bay and a Discovery Bay player may have to practice in Brentwood. This is strictly a team Manager decision once the teams are formed. Teams will generally have 2 games per week, one during the week after 5:00pm and one on Saturday. Times of the games will change based on the division and the number of teams in the league.

My daughter/son plays at a high level, can they play up?

Yes! PONY National now offers an 'And Under' age class that BPBL has adopted (at least a modified version of it). All divisions have been modified to allow players one year under the typical age cutoff to play, except Shetland, which has an additional stipulation.

What is the difference between the Shetland 5U and Shetland 6 Divisions?

Due to the number of participants in the Shetland division, BPBL has decided to split the division into 2 age groups. The 6 year olds will play in the Shetland 6 division, and 4 & 5 year olds will play in the Shetland 5U division.

Can my daughter/son play down?

Players who have developmental issues that might inhibit their ability to play or that may risk the safety of the player in his/her League age Division may be allowed to play down a division. To do this a request stating the reasons/issues can be submitted to the BPBL Board of Directors for review. If the request is approved the player will be allowed to play down a division. Please contact our Director of Registration and Draft for more details.

What should I buy?

Players will receive (from top to bottom) a hat, shirt, baseball pants, and baseball socks. The manager of the team will receive baseballs, catching gear and a first aid kit. Players will need to acquire on their own a baseball glove, batting helmet and a protective cup (sliding pants help with the cup). Once placed on a team some may purchase a shirt to wear under their jersey on cold days, and a belt - both of which will be matched to the team colors. Numbers and names will be added to the jersey by teams, the cost of this, per player, will vary based on the vendor used by each manager to apply the numbers.

Softball players are encouraged to buy face masks for playing in the infield.

Baseball Bats must have a USA stamp or a BBCOR stamp.

Softball Bats must have an ASA Stamp.

How can I help Brentwood PONY Baseball?

Brentwood PONY Baseball is always in need of volunteers to assist with the many aspects of League administration. Various events, such as Player Evaluation Day, Opening Day/Jamboree Weekend, and Championship Weekend are just a few of the many opportunities available for individuals to help the Board of Directors administer League activities. Please register to assist the league on the volunteer sign up link.

What is the BPBL Policy on Refunds of League Fees?

All Brentwood PONY Baseball registration fees include a non-refundable $25 registration fee. The remainder of the registration fee will be refunded if the refund request is received by the Webmaster or the Director of Registration and Draft prior to the player being placed on a team. Brentwood PONY Baseball will not refund any league fees after the players are placed on teams. The BPBL Board of Directors can make exceptions to this Policy if reviewed and approved at a normal BPBL board meeting.

How do I know which division my player is in?

Once you register your player, you will be sent a receipt with all of the division details. Retain that email in a safe spot.

How do I know if our Manager/Team from last season is coming back?

Send your Manager an email and ask!

How do Evaluations work?

Evaluations will take place prior to the season to help Managers determine the skills set of your players. Everyone in our league will make a team; which is why we call it "Evaluations" and not Tryouts.

Your player will be given a designated time and field to go to on Evaluation day. They will need their Glove, a Bat, and a Batting Helmet. (All baseball bats must be USA or BBCOR stamped. All softball bats must be ASA stamped.)

Evaluations are only for Pinto JR and above. Shetland division does not participate.

If your player can not attend the evaluation day - they will still be drafted onto a team.

How is my daughter/son placed on a team?

For all divisions, there is a coach and manager for each team. The coach and manager's sons/daughters are guaranteed to be placed on the team. If you would like to coach or manage please register as a volunteer.

New Shetland (5 or 6) players are placed on teams by nearest elementary school.

RETURNING Shetland 6 players will be placed on the same team provided either the coach or manager is returning. If you are a returning player and DO NOT want to return to the same team, you will be able to make that request during the registration process.

Pinto Jr., Mustang 9, Bronco and Pony players, are placed on teams via a draft. Pinto players who didn't play Pinto Jr., and Mustang 10 players who didn't play Mustang 9 will need to attend Evaluations so they can be entered into the Draft as well.

To be draft eligible, players must attend the player evaluation day. There will be ONLY ONE evaluation day. If, FOR ANY REASON, a player misses the evaluation day, he/she will be placed on a team via a hat pick process. Hat pick players are INELIGIBLE for post-draft trades.

Pinto players who played Pinto Jr., Mustang 10 players who played Mustang 9, and returning Bronco and Pony players will be placed on the same team provided the coach and/or manager is returning. If you are a returning player and DO want to return to the same team DO NOT attend evaluations. If you are a returning player and DO NOT want to return to the same team, make that request during the registration process and attend evaluations.

ALL players who attend evaluations WILL be draft eligible. There will be NO exceptions.

Can siblings play on the same team?

Yes, If the siblings can play in the same division.

Are there discounts for siblings?

No

Can my daughter/son be paired with his friend or our carpool buddies?

In Shetland we do have a Buddy request program - this is not a garuntee, but we will do our best to build the teams based off buddy requests for Shetland.

Unfortunately for all other divisions, this would go against our Draft rules. All players who are not already on a returning team or are a Manager/Coach's child, need to go through Evaluations and then be Drafted onto a team.

The best possible way to guarantee that two players are on the same team is to have their parents coach the team together, or have one parent coach and then make sure they draft that other player.

My daughter/son is trying out for the High School team, can I still get a refund if they make that team and I sign up for Colt Level?

One of the key aspects to our Colt division, is that we play by all High School rules, including base and pitching mound distances. We want to make sure any player cut from the high school team still has the opportunity to play at a competitive level -- We hold Colt division Evaluations after High school cuts.

Its best to wait until after cuts to register for the Colt division.

When do the Colt Division's activities begin?

Colt's evaluations will begin after the local high school teams conduct their cuts for the season. We start our Colt division later in the spring so that players that didn't make the high school teams have a chance to play at the high school level in a recreational format.

Our colt division plays by High school rules on 90' diamonds.
